Health & Wellbeing Engineer R&D
Join Blueair as an R&D Engineer: turn concepts into air-purifying prototypes that boost wellbeing. Collaborate globally, blend science with hands-on testing, and impact lives.
About Blueair
Blueair, part of Unilever, is a fast-growing global brand with strong momentum and ambition. We are not just an air purification company—we are a wellbeing company operating within the health space. Our purpose is to create healthier indoor environments that support people’s wellbeing, cognitive performance, and overall quality of life.
We believe that the freedom to breathe clean air is a basic human right, and we work every day to make that a reality. By combining science, design, and technology, we develop solutions that have a real, positive impact on people’s everyday lives.
At Blueair, you’ll join a team of curious thinkers, pragmatic doers, and passionate innovators who care deeply about improving wellbeing at scale.
The role
As an R&D Engineer at Blueair, you will play a key role in driving early concept development and shaping future product directions. You will be responsible for performance- and user-value-driven technical solutions, including airflow systems, motors, filtration, and wellness features.
You will take ownership of concepts from early idea through prototyping, validation, and recommendation.
You will design, build, and evaluate concepts, prototypes, and test setups across areas such as airflow design, energy consumption, CADR, acoustics, and wellness-related features.
This role is hybrid/onsite and requires presence at our central Stockholm office or any other global offices (Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chicago) at least three days per week.
We are particularly interested in engineers who combine strong product development experience with a deep interest in how products influence human perception, behavior, and wellbeing.
In this role, success is defined not only by technical performance, but by how effectively your solutions improve how people feel, breathe, and perform. You will help define next-generation products and technologies at Blueair.

Work in a fast, iterative development environment where rapid experimentation and learning are key
Performance & Engineering
Develop and optimize system and sub-system performance during concept development
Design and evaluate how product performance translates into perceived user experience and measurable human response
Define and develop test equipment, rigs, and methodologies
Perform verification according to internal and external standards
Develop and test interventions where product behavior influences user state (e.g., comfort, focus, relaxation)
Design and execute experiments that combine technical measurements with human feedback or physiological data
Validate concepts in real-world or representative use environments to understand user impact
Product Development
Design solutions and features for improving air and cognitive wellness

Experience developing products where performance is closely tied to user perception (e.g., acoustics, airflow, haptics, lighting, or similar)
Experience with closed-loop or feedback-driven systems
Experience working directly with end-users, user testing, or field validation of products
What Will Set You Apart
Strong ability to balance performance, user value, cost, and feasibility in early-stage decisions
Curious, analytical, and hands-on mindset
Strong problem-solving ability with a bias for action
Comfortable moving between theory and practical execution
Strong systems thinking and ability to see the bigger product ecosystem (user, technology, business)
Ability to define and drive early-stage product concepts from vague or ambiguous starting points
Proven ability to make decisions with incomplete data and navigate uncertainty
Entrepreneurial mindset with ownership of ideas from concept to realization
Strong collaboration, communication, and ability to influence stakeholders through concepts and prototypes
Experience working with international teams and suppliers (e.g. in China)
